Giving Back Goes A Long Way

If you've been following YSBM, you may have heard about an event we're coordinating for a local business here in Laredo. What started off as a consulting arrangement, has blossomed to a full forced campaign in hopes to giving back to the community.
Fred Barrera, a long time friend and business owner of Flat 5 Music Studios reached out to YSBM looking for a way to both revitalize his business and give back to the students who have made his business thrive. Together Fred and YSBM brainstormed through several ideas and eventually came up with Back to School Blues, Giving Back to Our Youth event. With school starting around the corner it was vital to get started asap.

Fred mentioned to us that he had never had a grand opening for the studio so we thought what better way to kick off the new school year, than a fun filled event providing live music, free food, and giveaways from other local businesses wanting to contribute to the community. Some of the plans for the event included a ribbon ceremony and performances by local talent, including Volatile Colour, a band with a European sound & previous students of Flat 5 Music Studios.

Through the use of social media, word of mouth, and of course networking, the event has captured a strong following along with positive feedback from Laredoans. An event page using Facebook for the Back to School Blues,Giving Back to Our Youth campaign was created and not too long after, people began reaching out to us and volunteering to help with the event.

We showcased our flyer promoting sponsorship opportunities, targeting local businesses looking for ways to promote their own businesses at an event with a lot of promise. Through the events page, someone asked if they could donate school supplies and our reply was, why not? After contacting a local school district here in Laredo and filling them in on our event and how we would like to donate school supplies, we we're happily received  and they agreed to work with us and help those families in need.

After getting an approval to distribute flyers in schools, we feel that we on our way to a successful campaign benefiting the youth in our community and at the same time, we are promoting a small business that really cares about it's clientele.
